Paper Doll Publications

One of the nice things about subscribing to the paper doll magazines is getting to read convention reports and enjoy it all over again. Sylvia Kleindinst reports for Studio, and Lorna does the same for her Circle.

We are definitely having a Gregg Nystrom moment--his artwork is featured in both magazines!

In Studio: What a treat to read David Wolfe's articles about Irene Sharaff (with a Wolfe paper doll to illustrate her award-winning Broadway costumes, including Funny Girl and The King and I) and his interview with Gregg Nystrom. This issue features the latest work by Gregg (on front and back covers) and many, many other paper doll artists. It's a fantastic showcase. I love the Carol Peters' Rockettes paper doll chain with outfits! What a great update on the old-fashioned paper dolls that are linked hand-to-hand! Subscription: $27/year US, $33/Canada, or $39 Overseas. Jenny Taliadoros, Publisher, P.O. Box 14, Kingfield, ME 04947. Check, MO, VISA, MC, Discover or Amex. Or order online at http://www.opdag.com/

In Circle: this issue (Nov.'08) celebrates the Circle's 25th anniversary (it was started in 1983 by Jenny Bloomfield Wilkinson, and Lorna Currie Thomopoulos took over in 1996). Beth Wilkins has an excellent write-up about the Anna Lindner paper dolls at the NJ Historical Society. Lorna writes about her trip to Mexico and some paper doll discoveries there. Three paper dolls are included to celebrate The Circle's silver anniversary: British models Jean Shrimpton and Barbara Goalen by Gregg, and an adorable child paper doll by Marie Walters. Subscription: $25/year US, 12 Euros/Europe or L8/UK. American checks and PayPal accepted. Lorna Currie Thomopoulos, 28 Ferndown Gdns, Cobham, Surrey KTII 2 BH England. www.myspace.com/thepaperdollcircle
